World Food Prize

What did I learn at the recent World Food Prize/Borlaug Dialogue?

This year was expected to be quite controversial – a real show-down over GMOs and biotechnology. Norman Borlaug was an outspoken supporter, yet World Food Prize head Amb. Kenneth Quinn frequently reminded us that – despite possibly offending his corporate funders – he has brought more anti-GMO thought-leaders to Iowa than anyone. For example, at this event he brought the noted author Francis Moore Lappé as a member of a distinguished panel of experts advocating more agro-ecological approaches.

THP is currently developing its own policy on GMOs, and so these are points we will be interested in.

There was no WTO-style protest.
